How it Works
Cupcake Day for the SPCA is a fun, community-driven annual fundraiser for the SPCA. Every year we rely heavily on our wonderful supporters to help us make Cupcake Day a success. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a Cupcake King or Queen for the SPCA, read on for our step-by-step guide to how Cupcake Day works!
1. Register to become a Cupcake Cook.
You can register to participate in Cupcake Day as an Individual, Team, or School. If you are planning to participate as a group, only one member of the group needs to register.
Registration is easy, will only take a couple of minutes, and will give you access to the special Members Only sections of the website. You will need to login with your username and nominated password to access these sections.
2. Download your Cupcake Kit.
Once your registration is successful, you will receive an email confirming all the details submitted with your registration, along with instructions on how to download all the important things you need, such as Cupcake Day posters and Cupcake Cook stickers. There will also be a link to the New Zealand Food Safety Authority's Food Safety Tips, which we strongly encourage all Cupcake Cooks to read at least once. It's also a good idea to print it out and keep it on hand.
3. Tell your mates!
In order to sell as many cupcakes as possible, you need to tell as many people as possible! Shout it from the rooftops, do a small speech during school assembly or bring it up in your next staff meeting, or just plaster the Cupcake Day poster all over your school, workplace or community centre. You could also create an event on Facebook and invite your friends.
4. Do some trial runs.
You want your cupcakes to be picture-perfect on the day, so why not do a couple of trial runs and taste-tests beforehand? Practice your baking and decorating, and eat the spoils – win-win, we think!
5. Bake, bake, bake!
Bake up a cupcake storm in time for Cupcake Day! (Don’t forget to use cage-free eggs!) On the day, sell your scrumptious cupcakes to everyone you know and raise money for your SPCA. Don’t forget to wear your special Cupcake Cook sticker – this identifies you as an official fundraiser for the SPCA.
6. Count it up and send it in.
Once you’ve sold your cupcakes, count up the money you raised and send it back to the SPCA. A form will be available on this website which will let you securely return your funds raised via credit card or bank transfer. All Cupcake funds will be collated at SPCA National Support Office and redistributed to Cupcake Cooks’ local SPCAs in one bulk lot to simplify our accounting process.
The online reconciliation form will be accessible in the weeks leading up to Cupcake Day.
7. Print out your Certificate of Participation.
Once we have received your Cupcake Day funds, we will email you a thank-you letter and a link to a beautiful Cupcake Day Certificate of Participation that you can print out and fill in for yourself and any helpers you may have had. Doing things electronically means we save money on printing and postage fees, which means more of the money you raise goes to help the animals.
8. You’re done!
Congratulations Cupcake Kings and Queens! Give yourself a great big pat on the back, and lots of hugs from our animals – thank you for supporting your SPCA and helping us continue our important work in your community.
